Independence

How is our family’s Independence Day celebration similar to your learning environment?

Our family is celebrating Independence Day by traveling to stay in the same house and spend time together. My brother and sister-in-law are facilitating the experience by providing accommodations, meals and entertainment. Our family ranges from age 7 to 70; therefore we have different interests on how we spend our time. The teenagers want to race away from the adults on jet skis in search of fun and excitement. The adults want to a break from their daily routine (work, kids).

INDEPENDENCE!

Independence: a condition where an individual exercises ultimate authority, a state of achieving independence from a dominating power

Learners seek experiences in environments where they can learn independence. They want and need to KNOW information to improve. They want and need to DO things at work or school to impact performance.

• Independent Learners are the drivers of their own learning.
• Independent Learners take responsibility to learn.
• Independent Learners want experiences to learn, not to be taught.

Are you a reflective or participative learner?
Do you take in the experience and ooh, ahh?
Do you jump in and ignite?

Forget your formal job title for a moment and consider yourself an INTERIOR designer. An interior designer provides a plan for the environment along with a path to navigate the experience.
